DIY Lifestyle

I have been striving to spend no extra money except at the thrift store, and I have been successful at it so far this year. I have hit the jackpot several times on visits to the local thrift store. The last two times I went, I was delighted to find a wonderful selection of vintage fabric remnants, and some wonderful vintage clothes to reconstruct. I will post pictures of those fabrics, etc later this week.

I have also been saving money by making instead of buying. This weekend I tried out another design inspired by a few designs I saw in stores. The bodice is double layered, and the dress zips up the back. There are pleats all the way around the skirt of the dress. This is the first one I’ve made in this design, so there are a few kinks to work out, but I plan on making several different colors of this design.

I decided to try a new DIY project this weekend, I cut and colored my own hair. I know what you’re thinking, worst mistake ever, but it actually turned out pretty close to what I wanted.

I’ve been coloring my own hair for a while, but I was getting tired of paying a minimum of $35 just to get it cut. So, I decided that I watch very closely when I get my haircut, and I could copy the techniques. I am very happy with how it turned out, even in the back. The best part is that it is a very low maintenance hairstyle.

Wow! You are very brave to cut your own hair, but it turned out great. It looks like you went to a salon.

The dress is very cute. I like the colors in the fabric.
